Our Relatives, the Islands

The Southern Gulf Islands have a rich and dense Indigenous history, which means each of the five islands have been spoken to or about in one or more language long before English or written letters existed.

Let us treat these islands as our relatives and learn about the places we live in or visit. The Southern Gulf Islands Tourism Partnership has put together a list of place names in SENĆOŦEN and Hul’quimi’num.

Is where you’re standing right now on the list?
